Banjaranama

Tuk hirs-au hawas chod miya, ma des bides phere mara,

Qazzakh ajal ka lute he din raat baja kar naqqara,

kya badhiyan, bhensa, beil, shutur, kya gaune palla sar bhara,

kya gehu, chawal, mot muttar, kya aag, dhooa aur angara,

sab thath pada reh javega jab lad chalega banjara.

Translation:

For a while shed the greed and the lust, O Mister, wonder not hither and  thither

Beating his drums,the bandit of death, robs day and night 

what of your bulls, buffaloes, ox and camels? what of luxury and possessions?

what of your wheat, rice, peas and pulses? what of your fire, smoke and sparks

All your splendour will go waste when the pedlar packs and leave,

Gar tu hai lakhi banjara aur khep bhi teri bhari hai,

aye gafil tujhse bhi chadhta ek aur bada bhyupari,

kya shakkar, misri,kand,giri, kya sambhar mithi khari hai,

kya dakh,munakka,suth, mirch,kya kesar,laung,saupari hai,

sab thath pada reh javega jab lad chalega banjara.

Translation:

If you are a millionaire nomad, and your stores are brimming,
Know, O ignorant! There is another merchant who is even greater than you.
What is the use of your sugar, candy, jaggery and nuts? Whats the use of doughs, sweet and salty?
Whats the use of  grapes, raisins, ginger and chill pepper? Whats the use of your saffron, cloves and nutmeg?
All your splendor will get wasted when the pedlar packs and leaves.

Tu badiya lade beil bhare joh purab pashchim javega,

ya sud bandhakar lavega ya tota ghata pavega,

Qazzakh ajal raste mein jab bhala mar giravega,

dhan daulat nati,pota kya ek kunba kaam na avega,

sab thath pada reh javega jab lad chalega banjara.

Translation:

With your Oxen and Bulls laden, when you go east and west

either you get a hefty profit or you suffer a heavy loss

but when the bandit of death slays you in  the way with his spear 

then what of your wealth and children even the community is of no help

All your splendor will get wasted when the pedlar packs and leaves.
